WiseCampus.com is a higher education social network that provides educational supplements to college students. Students learn differently and many times miss class for unavoidable reasons. Contrary to the name, the site does not promote skipping class instead, brings the age old practice of sharing notes into the 21st century while fostering intercollegiate social interaction, internship placement, and more. The name was created for marketing purposes and has allowed us to get more coverage. We have found students are naturally intrigued by the name and media companies love the controversy it creates.
Ryan Sapp, founder of WiseCampus.com, is a college student himself. During his first year of college, Ryan was part of the football team and although his absences were university sanctioned, he found it difficult to find the information he missed. After speaking with team members and other students around campus, he realized he was not the only one with this problem so he started WiseCampus.com.
Jim Sapp joined WiseCampus.com in December 2007. He is a serial entrepreneur who has established such ventures as Indy Lube, DBR leasing, and Access Garage Doors. Jim has won several awards for his leadership and management. These awards include the Entrepreneur of the Year award in 1992 as “Indy Lube Franchisor” and the National Blue Chip Winner in 2000. He also was the author of award winning book “Starting Your First Business” in 2006. Jim currently helps lead the WiseCampus.com team along with Ryan Sapp.
The site was launched in September 2007 and since has grown to over 15,000 students with over 30,000 documents. The company has used traditional forms of marketing and promotions (including print advertising, campus representatives, promotional items, etc.) as well as other non-traditional forms such as twitter, online advertising, facebook fan page, blogging, text messaging, email marketing, etc). The company’s marketing and public relation efforts have been quite successful, resulting in significant site growth.
